Primos Truth Cam Ultra 35 (2013 model) ReviewedPrimos Truth Cam ULTRA 35 (model number 63014) is successor of Primos Truth Cam 35, one of the best selling trail camera models ever made. You can actually still find Primos Truth Cam 35 ranking near the top spots on many trail camera sales charts. Thus you could think that the improved model of Truth Cam 35 would be another best seller. However Truth Cam ULTRA 35 has not been selling as well as its predecessor. Read the rest of this review to find out why.

Truth Cam ULTRA 35 is super compact, one of the smallest trail cameras on the market today. It is also as easy to set up as the previous model, all the main controls are handled with simple slide switches. ULTRA 35 provides 4 megapixel photos and is able to record 60 second video clips with audio. It also features a time lapse mode and burst shooting mode.

Primos TC ULTRA 35 features Early Detect Sensor, a 45° PIR sensor that picks up motion earlier, so you don’t miss the object walking in front of the camera. Trigger speed is on the average level, roughly one second. Recovery time is mediocre as well, roughly 7 seconds.

ULTRA 35 is equipped with red glow IR flash, consisting of 35 IR LEDs. The flash has range up to 40 ft which is ok, but nothing special when compared to competing models like Moultrie D-444.

Photos come tagged with burst count, moon phase, temperature, time, date and and day of the week info. TC ULTRA 35 accepts SD memory cards up to 32 GB and is powered by 8 AA batteries.

Overall Truth Cam ULTRA 35 is a very well designed trail camera. It is small, the case design is smart and durable, and the toggle switch controls make setting up the camera a breeze.

One of the most impressing features of TC ULTRA 35 is the battery life. The power consumption of this model is really low. Primos actually promises incredible 9 months battery life for this model, and you can easily extend the battery life with external power source like battery pack or solar panel. And as TC ULTRA 35 is powered by AA batteries, you can use rechargeable Lithium or NiMH batteries that will cut down your operating costs even further.

A small drawback of ULTRA 35 is the picture quality. The quality of daytime pictures is nothing special, you could expect better pictures from camera in this price category. Night pictures are guite good, at least if the animal is rather close to the camera. The flash of ULTRA 35 really is not that powerful.

Truth Cam ULTRA 35 is also slightly more expensive than competing models that provide same amount (or more) of features and better picture quality.

Primos Truth Cam ULTRA 35 is not a perfect trail camera but it is a very solid basic model. If you are looking for a camera that is really, really easy to use, and if you can live with the mediocre picture quality, then TC ULTRA 35 is a camera for you.
